Firefighters in “Baton Rouge North” Give Good July 4th Safety Tips

Comments Off

While LSU did not bring home the national championship from Omaha in last week’s College World Series, the relationship between Baton Rouge and “Baton Rouge North” was further strengthened. The hospitality of Omaha to LSU fans was matched by the Tiger’s support of Omaha’s businesses. One Omaha businessperson described LSU fans as an “economic force by themselves.”

Our friends in Omaha have shared some good advice for us in Louisiana as we recover from the Tiger’s loss and celebrate the July 4th holiday.  Omaha firefighters have shared some precautions to ensure a safe July 4th.  Some of the tips include:

  • Never let children play with or light fireworks.
  • Light fireworks one at a time and quickly move away.
  • Stick to using legal fireworks.
  • Leave fireworks alone if they don’t work the first time.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose close to put out any fires.

In addition to personal injury, be aware of the dangers that fireworks can cause property as well.  “Fireworks also can damage property,” said Tim McCaw, Omaha Fire Department assistant chief. “In a typical year, more fires are reported on the Fourth of July than any other day, and many of those fires are caused by fireworks.”

Thanks Omaha — for the hospitality and the good tips to enjoy the 4th.  See you next year.  Geaux Tigers!
